Global Warming Epidemic
Issues face our world every day. Whether it is political, economical or personal. Whatever it is, the world is always faced with problems. These can always be solved by signing a treaty, engaging in a war or creating a friendship. However, what if there was a problem that was so big that wars, treaties and friendships could not fix? What if we created a problem that could end all humanity? What if I told you that this problem does exist? We know it today as global warming.
Global warming is basically our planet becoming warmer. There is a thin layer of atmosphere surrounding our planet called the ozone layer. The ozone layer protects the earth from the deadly UV rays given off by the sun. Without it, the polar caps would melt and more of the earth would be submerged underwater.
Over the past couple of decades, the ozone layer has been diminishing. The temperature in 2007 has been reported as the hottest year ever. The ice caps are slowly melting and many indigenous animals in Antarctica are becoming endangered, such as the polar bear. Many people, especially in industrialized countries, do not see how they can change the deadly path that our planet is heading on. We can help just by tweaking our everyday routines.
One thing that people do everyday that releases deadly gases into the air is driving. If we all walked to our destination not only would we be getting our healthy everyday exercise, we would also be helping out our environment. Walking is a healthy way to a better you and a better planet.
Big companies also spend millions of dollars to manufacture many different products here in the United States. These companies know that by burning things like plastic, they are releasing carbon dioxide and other deadly gases into the atmosphere and they could care less. Big time companies could care less about the environment; they would rather make a quick buck than see their further generations see a healthy earth. If we use less damaging elements to produce things that we use everyday, we could reduce the amount of harmful gases big companies release into the air.
Another harmful deed that big companies do is destroying rainforests. They chop down trees and leave many woodland creatures homeless. Not only are their actions affecting animals, they also affect us. By killing green life, they are decreasing the amount of oxygen provided for us here on earth. Less oxygen, more carbon dioxide and other harmful gases in the atmosphere.
After all is said and done, we have hurt our atmosphere, which in turn, could hurt our planet. Using up all of our natural resources and not caring about our environment could lead us to destroy life as we know it today and evidently the future for further generations. Please be more aware of how your actions will affect you and others for years to come and hopefully it is not too late to make a change and save our environment, our planet and our home.
